c • Letting love win; a play on letting guards down in favor of connection; intimacy & moving closer (inspired by screenwriter Glória Perez, who wrote “No campo do amor, não é vergonha nenhuma, a se dar por vencido” / “On the [playing] field of love, there is no shame in having been won.”)

PROJECT | Jaime y el cactus gigante CLIENT | Amplify Education

A selection of spreads from a book illustrated for Amplify’s Spanish-language curriculum.

Jaime & the Giant Cactus is a sweet story about a young boy who is enchanted by the giant cactus in his Arizona backyard. The story celebrates Jaime’s sense of wonder & curiosity at the interconnectedness of nature all around him—the cactus that houses the birds and then heals itself back up; the flowers that blossom into fruits in the summertime to feed them—and his use of art as a tool for assimilation / imagination.

a • Inspired by the call-to-action “Read Expand Engage;” a representation of young readers taking flight as they explore the worlds they can open for themselves through reading; engaging with word & image in a way that expands their sense of limitless possibility, agency, and belonging. (for Enchanted Lion Books)
b • Meditation on “presence” as a sunspot we can bask in; how all of your other senses feel more alive & at play with your eyes closed.
c • Reflection on the joy, well-being, and spirituality we can access when we move like life is music we co-create, in rhythm with the natural world.
