Based on the call-to-action “Read, Expand, Engage,” this illustration celebrates young readers taking flight as they explore the worlds they can open for themselves through reading; engaging with word & image in a way that expands their sense of limitless possibility, hope, and belonging.

Inspired by the feelings (flying, freedom) from Faith Ringgold’s Tar Beach, one of the most important books to me in elementary school. 🧡
